Swarthmore’s New Cocktail Lounge Has a Vinyl Listening Bar Vibe

Swarthmore's Town Center will welcome The Stylus Room, a casual, intimate community cocktail lounge.

The Stylus Room is coming to downtown Swarthmore, and it’s bringing along a Japanese vinyl listening bar vibe, writes Denali Sagner for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The cocktail lounge 110 Park Ave. plans to offer crafted cocktails, natural wines, small bites, and an “intentionally calm” atmosphere.

A liquor license transfer from the closed Slowdown Grillpub in Aston to the 1,400 square-foot  Stylus Room has been approved by the borough council.

Patrons can enjoy a high-fidelity vinyl system with their cocktails in a “communal living room” built around music and conversation, according to owner Greg Hoy, in speaking to the council on March 9.

He described  The Stylus Room as a place for the people of Swarthmore to gather, who have “very few places to gather in the evening that feel intentional.”

The lounge, which will seat about 30 people, is modeled after the intimate record bars found in Japan.  There will be no dance floor, no TVs showing sports or amplified live music, and no standing.

The bar will close by 11 PM every night, Hoy said.

There will also be a family-friendly weekend brunch service coinciding with the Swarthmore Farmers Market.
