A major donation from the region’s wealthiest billionaire is helping fuel a workforce-focused expansion at a Philadelphia school, writes Ryan Mulligan for The Philadelphia Business Journal.
Bala Cynwyd’s Jeff Yass, founder of Susquehanna International Group, has awarded $2.5 million to Liguori Academy in Kensington through the Yass Foundation for Education. The funding will support the development of a new Community Innovation Center, part of the school’s broader $25 million expansion campaign.
The planned facility is designed to serve both students and the surrounding community. There will be dedicated space for job training, classroom instruction, and wellness resources.
School leaders say the goal is to better prepare students from underserved backgrounds for careers after graduation, particularly in the skilled trades and other in-demand fields.
The investment builds on previous contributions that allowed Liguori Academy to secure a permanent campus and begin upgrades to its academic facilities, including new science and technology labs.
Yass has been a longtime supporter of education initiatives, particularly those focused on expanding access and alternative learning models. His involvement in school-choice advocacy has also drawn debate among public education supporters.
