A Huntingdon Valley firefighter who started volunteering as a teenager is now making history in Montgomery County, writes Ann Rejrat for The Morning Call.
Katelyn Valesky, a longtime member of the Huntingdon Valley Fire Company, has been named the first female fire marshal in Hatboro Borough, marking the latest milestone in a career defined by service and leadership.
She joined the company at just 16 years old and has since risen through the ranks, becoming the organization’s first female captain and fire chief along the way.
Now more than two decades into her career, Valesky continues to serve both professionally and as a volunteer, staying connected to the department where her journey began. She said her motivation has remained consistent: helping people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
That commitment has shaped her reputation across the community. Colleagues point to her willingness to step in wherever needed and her dedication to both personal growth and public service.
In one memorable response, Valesky and her team searched a fire-damaged home until they were able to reunite a resident with their missing cat. Valesky says the moment reinforced why she chose the profession.
Beyond emergency response, Valesky is also focused on the future of the fire service, encouraging younger generations, especially women, to get involved.
