Jenkintown native Bradley Cooper took a risk early in his career that could have potentially torpedoed everything, writes Alexia Fernández for People.
Before becoming one of Hollywood’s biggest names, Cooper was a regular on the hit TV series Alias. But as his role began to shrink, frustration grew. Instead of waiting it out, he made a bold decision. Cooper asked creator J.J. Abrams to write him off the show, even as those around him warned against it.
At the time, it was a gamble with no clear safety net. Soon after, Cooper suffered a torn Achilles tendon that sidelined him for a year, leaving him away from acting and questioning his future in the industry.
The move could have ended his career before it truly began. Instead, it opened the door to a breakthrough.
After recovering, Cooper landed roles in films like Wedding Crashers and eventually The Hangover, launching him into mainstream success. From there, he built a resume that includes Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and his directorial debut A Star Is Born.
