Phillies Truck, Packed with Gear and Hot Dog Launcher, Heads to Spring Training

Heading to spring training in Clearwater, Florida, the Philadelphia Phillies are bringing along a truck stocked with hats, gloves, and even a hot dog launcher, writes Ariel Simpson for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Decorated for their All-Star Game on July 14 at Citizens Bank Park, the truck will travel 1,054 miles across eight states to reach its destination. Spring training begins on February 11 for pitchers and catchers, with the full team joining on February 16.

During their six weeks in Florida, the team will rely on the equipment truck for all of their necessities, which range from 600 pairs of pants to a single stroller and much more.

“Today, we’re packing up the truck,” said Tim Schmidt, a clubhouse attendant for the Phillies, on Tuesday. “It’s a pretty long process. I mean, there’s a lot of inventory that goes into it. We have to label everything, we have to put it in bins, and then there’s thousands of items.”

The process, which began two weeks after the end of the previous season, lasted for months and concluded on Tuesday. This ensured that all of the 900 pairs of socks, 600 batting practice hats, and additional equipment would be ready and available for the team.
