Firehouse Subs Reignites Growth Plans in King of Prussia and Willow Grove

Firehouse Subs plans a major Philly-area comeback, targeting King of Prussia and Willow Grove before expanding further.

Firehouse Subs is plotting a regional comeback and has Montco firmly in its sights, writes Emma Dooling for The Philadelphia Business Journal.

The Florida-based sandwich chain is targeting major suburban hubs, including King of Prussia and Willow Grove as part of a broader plan to open 50 to 80 locations across the region over the next five to 10 years. Company leaders say they hope to launch the first 10 area restaurants within three years.

Firehouse Subs is known for its steamed meats and cheeses piled onto toasted sub rolls. The brand was acquired in 2021 for $1 billion by Restaurant Brands International. RBI is the parent company of Burger King, Popeyes and Tim Hortons.

Firehouse previously operated in the Philadelphia market beginning in 2011. They exited in early 2023 during a systemwide transition following the acquisition. Now, executives say the company has strengthened its marketing, technology and franchise support systems, putting it in a better position to expand.

The chain is seeking franchise partners and is open to urban, suburban and even drive-thru locations. Typical restaurants now range from 1,200 to 1,500 square feet in shopping center inline spaces.
