Plymouth Meeting Woman Leads Back to Earth Compost Crew to Reduce Food Waste

Plymouth Meeting’s Colleen Falicki launched Back to Earth Compost Crew as a way to reduce food waste and return nutrients to the earth, reports Nick Iadonisi for 6abc.

Working with her small crew, Falicki collects food scraps from businesses and residences, transforming them into compost that will nourish the soil and support future generations.

“We are a company that is on a mission to keep food waste out of landfills and back into the soil in our communities,” said Falicki. “So we work with residences, businesses, schools, cafes, breweries. Take that food waste and transform it into a soil enhancer and fertilizer called compost.”

During the week, the crew follows about twelve routes, collecting food scraps from businesses such as from Blossom Cafe and Foulkeways at Gwynedd. These then get transported to the compost site so they can be processed into the finished product. Twice a year, the company then delivers the resulting compost to their customers, which in turn allows them to enrich their gardens and nurture their plants.

“It feels good to know that we’re making a difference,” said Falicki.
