Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is partnering with Soar Autism Center of Denver to establish a network of outpatient care centers in Greater Philadelphia, including the recently opened CHOP-Soar Autism Center in Newtown, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Plans include four additional centers across the region, expected to create roughly 300 jobs within the first two years of the partnership, with the potential for further expansion.
“We’ve been, for a number of years, concerned about this gap in care for young children after a diagnosis of autism,” said Dr. Steven G. Docimo, CHOP’s executive vice president of business development and strategy. “That’s not something that we provide. We do the diagnostics and complex therapy, but we don’t provide early childhood therapy.”
The 10,000-square-foot center in Bucks County, which is located less than a mile from a CHOP Pediatric Primary Care office, will support 60 new jobs and serve children through age 6.
Services include speech, occupational, and behavioral therapy, as well as full- and half-day integrated care programs built around a research-based and play-focused approach to developing communication, social, and cognitive skills.
