Chester County boys’ basketball teams are aiming for another successful season, with a strong chance of achieving their goal, writes Joseph Santoliquito for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Coatesville’s Red Raiders boast 6-6 sophomore Colton Hiller, who is the top-rated sophomore in Pennsylvania according to 247 Sports. The lineup also includes 6-7 senior forwards Larry Brown and Jonas Chester, along with junior guards Jahmaad Williams and Chris Allegra.
The team finished last season 24-7 and is aiming to three-peat as Ches-Mont champion, having won league tournament games by an average margin of 25 points. The team did not advance past the District 1 6A semifinals but made it to the state quarterfinals. Coatesville is considered a District 1 favorite this season, having last won district and state championships in 2001, when its current coach John Allen was the team’s standout player.
Malvern Prep’s Friars return a solid core featuring junior forward Nick Harken, junior point guard Marvin Reed, and sophomore center Logan Chwastyk. The team went 17-10 overall and 5-5 in the Inter-Ac last season.
This year, Malvern and coach Paul Romanczuk are set to challenge the Quakers for the Inter-Ac title.
