As Cheltenham Township begins its countdown to the national semiquincentennial, the community is preparing for an evening of deep reflection on the landmarks that define its landscape.

On Friday, January 23rd at 7 PM, All Hallows Episcopal Church in Wyncote will host a landmark event titled “Celebrating Township Architecture,” a key component of the broader “Cheltenham 2026 – The Past Is Present” initiative.

The evening is designed to be more than a simple history lesson; it is a “spirited conversation” among local historians and residents alike. A panel of experts, moderated by Lisa Leonard and featuring local voices like Don Scott, David Rowland, and Jim Paradis, will lead a roundtable discussion focused on the evolution of the township.

The event aims to reveal “what has gone before” to provide a clearer lens through which to view the Cheltenham of today.

Central to the “Celebrating Township Architecture” theme will be a showcase of rare, little-seen images featuring the masterworks of legendary architects who left an indelible mark on the area.

Attendees will be treated to views of the architectural legacy left behind by Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Kahn, Frank Furness, and Horace Trumbauer.

These structures often served as the homes and headquarters for 19th-century captains of industry, including names synonymous with Philadelphia history like John Wanamaker, William Breyer, and Jay Cooke.

Beyond the grand estates, the conversation will tackle the township’s broader cultural milestones. Topics scheduled for the evening include the influence of the Montier family, the abolitionist history of Historic La Mott, and the Civil War-era significance of Camp William Penn.

The event concludes in the church’s Parish House for a reception, where eleven historical exhibitors will display archival materials.

While browsing these historical treasures, guests can enjoy refreshments and participate in a raffle for gift certificates to local restaurants—a community-focused end to a night dedicated to the township’s enduring legacy.
