Aqua Pennsylvania has been awarded a combination of principal forgiveness loans and low-interest loans through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST).
Funding totaling $16.9 million will support five PFAS treatment systems at nine community well sites in southeastern Pennsylvania, which will meet federal regulatory requirements. Aqua Pennsylvania is already in full compliance with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) PFAS drinking water standards.
“Aqua Pennsylvania is committed to removing ‘forever chemicals’ from drinking water, and we want to honor that commitment by reducing the financial burden to our customers,” said Aqua Pennsylvania President Marc Lucca. “I want to thank PENNVEST for its continued support. These funding opportunities allow us to aggressively tackle PFAS and cost-effectively deliver the highest quality drinking water to the communities we serve.”
The PFAS treatment systems will positively impact nearly 16,000 customers in the following communities:
BUCKS COUNTY
- Peddler’s View Well, Solebury Township
CHESTER COUNTY
- Hunt Country Well, East Goshen Township
- Deer Run Well, Honey Brook Township
MONTGOMERY COUNTY
- Oreland Well, Springfield Township
- Flourtown Well, Cheltenham & Whitemarsh Townships
- Cranberry Wells #3 & #4, Perkiomen Township
- Rahns Well, Perkiomen Township
- Meyers Tract Well, Perkiomen Township
- Ivy Ridge Well, Upper Frederick Township
Construction on these treatment facilities is expected to be completed in late Winter 2027.
In the last five years, Aqua Pennsylvania has worked diligently to obtain $207.9 million in PENNVEST principal forgiveness loans and low-interest loans for infrastructure improvement projects. Nearly $108 million in funding has been awarded for PFAS treatment projects. This support has helped Aqua Pennsylvania add PFAS treatment to facilities across the state.
