Circuit Trails Coalition Secures Funding to Bring Over 90 Miles of New Trails to Philadelphia, Surrounding Region

The Circuit Trails Coalition's new funding will support the development of new trails around the region. stretching more than 500 miles.

The Circuit Trails Coalition has recently obtained funding to support the development of up to 91 miles of new trails in Philadelphia and the surrounding region, with several projects already in progress, writes Mike D’Onofrio for AXIOS Philadelphia.

Upon completion, the Circuit Trails in the region will stretch for more than 500 miles, connecting nine counties across Pennsylvania and New Jersey with multi-use paths. The coalition, which is made up of dozens of nonprofits and agencies that help maintain and manage the trails, set its goal of reaching 500 miles in 2017, when the Circuit Trails ran for around 320 miles.

Among the projects included in the coalition’s latest initiatives is the Spring Garden Street Greenway, a two-mile trail that will connect the Delaware and Schuylkill Rivers, as well as complete the Center City portion of the East Coast Greenway.

Also under construction is the Camden LINK Trail, a proposed 34-mile route that will ultimately link the Ben Franklin Bridge to the Winslow Wildlife Management Area in South Jersey.

Additionally, a new swing bridge over the Schuylkill River will connect Grays Ferry to Bartram’s Garden is expected to be completed in the summer of 2026.

Alyssa Ellington, a spokesperson for the coalition, praised trails for offering “ways to commute and travel, safely and for free.”
