Jenkintown’s National Philanthropic Trust, the nation’s largest independent public charity specializing in donor-advised funds, reports a landmark year of generosity.
According to the organization, National Philanthropic Trust facilitated $6.61 billion in donor-recommended grants during Fiscal Year 2025. This reflects a 20% increase year-over-year and marks one of the most impactful giving cycles in its history.
President and CEO Holly Welch Stubbing said donor activity surged across every major benchmark, from grant volume to the number of charitable organizations receiving support. In total, 161,515 grants were awarded to 48,685 nonprofits in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and 67 additional countries.
Stubbing credited donors’ commitment to both local and global needs, calling donor-advised funds “critical to the nonprofit ecosystem” as communities grapple with growing demands and rapid social change.
Unrestricted giving soared, accounting for two-thirds of all grants and rising 72% from the previous year. Sectors such as Environment/Animals and Health saw some of the sharpest rises in philanthropic support. International grantmaking also accelerated, with donors recommending $439 million to global nonprofits, a 25% increase.
NPT’s affiliated organizations, NPT UK and NPT Transatlantic, also posted year-over-year growth. This underscores the Jenkintown nonprofit’s expanding international reach.
