Montgomery County’s food scene is full of character, but nothing captures the region’s personality quite like its signature sandwiches. From viral cheesesteaks to decades-old local staples, Montco’s sandwich roster reflects both tradition and creativity.
New in town, Pop’sis making a fast name for itself. Their cheesesteaks arrive tightly packed with finely chopped rib-eye, golden caramelized onions cooked in beef tallow, and melted Cooper Sharp folded throughout.
Served on seeded or unseeded Aversa’s Italian rolls delivered fresh each day, Pop’s has quickly carved out its place in the local conversation.
Ye Olde Ale House – Lafayette Hill
The Ale House’s roast beef sandwiches are possibly the crown jewel of Montco’s sandwich crown. Forget about Montco; this sandwich makes a run for the best roast beef in the entire Philadelphia region.
Behind the bar, dedicated staff work a carving station, slicing roast beef for their patrons. Order the roast beef with any cheese, but of course, it goes best with sharp provolone. Seasoned Ale House veterans know to ask for burnt ends.
Gazzo’s Steaks – Pottstown and Ardmore
Founded by two brothers-in-law who moved to Montco from South Philadelphia. Gazzo’s started as a food truck, but they became a viral sensation overnight and blew up.
They now have a brick-and-mortar location in Pottstown and recently opened a second spot in Ardmore.
Dutch Cottage Tavern – Schwenksville
Named for the beloved regular who concocted this masterpiece, the Douginator elevates the classic cheesesteak to new levels.
The Dutch adds hot peppers, pepperoni, and diced pickles. Don’t knock it ‘til you’ve tried it.
No Montco sandwich list would be complete without a zep from Eve’s. A close relative of the hoagie, the Norristown sandwich is served on a long roll with one meat – ham or salami, or even tuna salad.
Throw on some thick-cut tomatoes and onions.
Guests can add mayo or hot peppers, but absolutely no lettuce.
MasterPeace Grill – Conshohocken
Can’t decide between a cheesesteak and a chicken cheesesteak? At MasterPeace, you don’t have to.
The Tiger Steak is the perfect combination of both on one roll. Beef and chicken chopped together with some bacon for good measure. It comes with your choice of cheese and onions if that’s your thing.
Travel anywhere within the 487 square miles and you won’t be far from a delicious signature sandwich.
