The Hepatitis B Foundation in Doylestown recently announced their winner of the prestigious 2026 Baruch S. Blumberg Prize, writes Jeff Werner for Patch.
The global nonprofit focuses its efforts on eliminating hepatitis B, liver cancer and hepatitis D.
To celebrate his efforts to determine new treatments for hepatitis B and D, the organization awarded Fabien Zoulim, MD, Ph.D., with their highest honor.
He is a professor of medicine at Lyon I University and the medical director of the Hospices Civils de Lyon’s Hepatology Department.
“Dr. Zoulim has been one of the world’s leading scientists advancing our understanding of hepatitis B virus persistence and developing strategies to achieve a cure,” said the president of Doylestown’s Hepatitis B Foundation, Dr. Chari A. Cohen.
Dr. Zoulim is a renowned researcher who has had his scientific findings published on many occasions.
“I am truly thrilled and honored to receive this prestigious award from the Hepatitis B Foundation,” Dr. Zoulim said. “Nearly 60 years after Dr. Baruch Blumberg’s discovery of the hepatitis B virus, we are drawing closer to curative regimens for the 254 million people living with chronic hepatitis B.”
The award will be presented to Dr. Zoulim on April 10 at the foundation’s gala in Warrington.
