Fred Perrin, a Neshaminy High School alum and head coach of Thomas Jefferson University’s tennis program, is still competing and collecting wins along the way, writes Tyler Delpercio for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
He recently competed on the United States Tennis Association circuit and earned an invitation to the national tournament for players aged 55 and older.
“I love the competition,” said Perrin. “I love the fact that a tennis tournament is something where, if you get in, nobody can take you out. If I play a sport such as baseball, I got to get put in. I [have to] play well. I [have to] be able to impress the coach to be able to stay in. Tennis was one of those great things, where as long as I can compete, I can stay in.”
Perrin, who grew up in a family of tennis players, has been competing since childhood.
His family founded Mill Creek Tennis Club in Feasterville in 1970, where he learned, played and started coaching.
Before joining Jefferson, he most recently taught at a Doylestown club that shut down for residential development.
