Montgomery County’s public library system gives residents on a budget the opportunity to visit more than 30 Pennsylvania museums at no cost, writes Lily Henderson for the Main Line Today.
Free museum passes are not a new concept. According to Eileen Hallstrom, director of development at Montgomery County-Norristown Public Library, “they’ve been popular for years” and have often been used by patrons.
The selection of museums comes from the hard work of librarians and dedicated community members that endeavor to support their local branches. Hallstrom highlighted Friends of the Library, the volunteer group with chapters across the United States, as a key supporter of the service.
The available museum passes range from Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens to Chanticleer Garden to Eastern State Penitentiary and many others, which provides opportunities for everyone to explore new interests.
However, some places, like Elmwood Park Zoo, are in high demand and can quickly become unavailable. But there are some tricks on how you can ensure to get museum passes before they are out of stock, such as grabbing those that are available 30 to 60 days in advance by planning your ideal visit date ahead of time.
