Newtown Board of Supervisors Approve Newtown Plaza Bagel Store Expansion

Newtown Bagel, located in the Newtown Plaza shopping center on Swamp Road, was recently approved for expansion into the space next door.

Newtown Township’s board of supervisors unanimously approved the expansion of Newtown Bagel in the Newtown Plaza shopping center, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.

The owner, Chris Meyer, will be expanding the store into the former C&N Bank next door, adding 1,800 square feet to the original 1,200-square-foot space. This expansion comes just in time for the business’s 25th anniversary next year.

“We operate in 1,200 square feet, which can be tight on a Saturday or Sunday,” said Meyer, who has owned the business since 2020. “I often encourage people to order ahead so they don’t have to wait in a very cramped environment.”

The current store only offers 10 seats, which has posed some difficulties. The new space will allow him to bring the total number of chairs to 24.

Meyer announced that the shop will begin to offer more coffee selections, including gourmet options and homemade syrups. He is also hoping to hire one or two new employees.

The store will continue its usual hours of 7 AM to 2 PM.

“I’d like to explore whether we can stay open until 3 p.m. It’s really hard to guess where we will land, but right now 7 to 2 is what we’re looking to do,” Meyer said.
