The Immaculata Symphony Presents Annual Outdoor Concert

The Immaculata Symphony opens its 2025-26 season with “The Great Outdoors,” a free outdoor concert featuring works by Strauss, Borodin, and Rodgers & Hammerstein.

On Sunday, Sept. 28, the Immaculata Symphony will perform its annual free outdoor concert, “The Great Outdoors,” beginning at 3:00 PM on the Back Campus of Immaculata University. The Immaculata Symphony is a university-community organization, with a long and outstanding tradition that goes back to the University’s founding in 1920.

The popular outdoor concert, featuring the full orchestra, kicks off the 2025-2026 Symphony season with lively tunes including Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music,” Franz von Suppe’s “Light Cavalry Overture,” Johann Strauss II’s “Tales from the Vienna Woods” and Alexander Borodin’s “In the Steppes of Central Asia.”

Joseph Gehring, Ed.D., serves as the Music Director for the Immaculata Symphony. He is also the Chair of the Immaculata University Music Department and serves as an Assistant Professor and Director of Ensembles. Gehring has been involved with the Immaculata Symphony since 2004 and was appointed music director in 2011. In addition to his role with Immaculata, he serves as the music director of the West Chester Band and is a member of the Chesco Pops Orchestra. Gehring frequently directs various honor and festival bands throughout the Pennsylvania and Delaware area.

The outdoor concert is free, but donations are accepted.
