Bristol native Mike Missanelli, a well-known sports radio personality, has been dismissed by 97.5 The Fanatic with six months remaining on his contract, writes Rob Tornoe for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
Beasley Media Group let go of Missanelli ahead of its latest earnings report, which showed drops in both net revenue and operating income, citing “softness in the traditional audio advertising market.”
Missanelli was blindsided by the news, learning after the end of his Friday show from management that it would be his last. The layoff ended his second stint at the Philadelphia station, which began about a year ago after he had previously spent 15 years there.
“It was a shock to me since we were poised to start a whole new midday show come football season,” said Missanelli. “But these budgetary cuts in radio, I guess, are a sign of the times.”
“I wish I was allowed to retire from the station with a little more dignity,” he added.
Ray Dunne has taken over the midday show while The Fanatic prepares to name Missanelli’s permanent replacement, with former 94.1 WIP host Jon Marks already being mentioned as a possible choice.
