The Spring House Tavern, nestled inside a stone building in Ambler, serves some of the best prime ribs in Pennsylvania, writes James Morgan for the Family Destinations Guide.
Located at the intersection of Bethlehem Pike and Sumneytown Pike, the fieldstone building has endured for centuries, hosting countless travelers, residents, and food lovers over the years.
While it might lack in Instagram-worthiness, it more than makes up for it with flavors that linger long after the meal has ended.
Inside, warm wooden beams are accented with nautical touches, referencing the seafood offerings on the menu. White tablecloths create a sense of casual elegance seldom seen in modern dining. Historical photographs line the walls, providing a window into Ambler’s past.
The star attraction on the menu is the prime rib, which draws locals and returning visitors alike to this suburban Philadelphia landmark. The dish is sizable, offering a substantial cut of beef with a rich, beefy aroma accented by hints of rosemary and garlic.
Other menu highlights are equally delightful, ranging from crab cakes overflowing with sweet, tender crab meat to the snapper soup, a Pennsylvania classic perfectly prepared.
