Save Lives and Find a New Furry Friend At a Chester County Animal Shelter

By adopting over shopping, Chester County can find the perfect furry companion and save the life of a rescue pet in need.

Adopting a rescue pet is one of the best ways to find a new furry companion while providing life-saving support for animals, writes Shannon Montgomery for County Lines Magazine.

Local shelters are speaking out about the importance of adoption over shopping for a pet through a breeder.

One major benefit to adopting over shopping is the lifesaving help it gives to animals in need. Erin Johnston, a leadership team member for the Brandywine Valley SPCA, shared that adopting a pet saves them from potential euthanasia.

Adopting a rescue pet also allows you to get to know the new animal and find a pet with the right temperament for you. Many shelters facilitate “meet and greet” sessions with adopters and potential rescues.

Additionally, many shelter animals are adults, perfect for adopters looking for a calmer companion.

Adopting an animal can also be significantly more affordable than purchasing from a breeder. Adoption fees are typically lower than sale prices, and fees for many available pets can be waived through a sponsor.

Through local shelters like the SPCA and Phoenixville’s Main Line Animal Rescue, Chester County residents can find the perfect pet in an ethical, joy-filled way.

About the importance adopting when you can, Johnston said, “When you adopt, you give an animal a second chance at life. You also create space at the shelter for another pet looking for their second chance.”
