North Wales’ John Oates Surprised Fans Encore Performance Featuring a Special Guest

John Oates surprises fans with William H. Macy duet during summer tour, previewing his new solo album ahead of its August release.

‘80s hitmaker and North Wales native, John Oates, is charting his own path and surprising fans along the way, writes Meredith Gordon for Parade.

The former Hall & Oates singer, who split from longtime collaborator Daryl Hall in 2024, is on tour this summer ahead of his solo album, ‘Oates,’ set for release on August 29.

During recent “songs and stories” shows in Colorado, Oates shared the stage with an unexpected guest: award-winning actor William H. Macy of Fargo and Shameless fame. Macy joined Oates for the encore, performing a heartfelt version of the 1969 anthem “Get Together” by The Youngbloods.

In a TikTok clip of the performance, Oates wrote, “Loved singing this one for the encore with William H. Macy! Thanks for coming out and making these shows amazing. Can’t wait to see more of you on the road this month.”

Fans praised the moment, calling it “beautiful and emotive” and a “perfect choice for the times.”

Hall & Oates’ split followed a legal dispute over their jointly owned company. They haven’t performed together since 2022, with no plans to reunite.
