Worcester, Upper Merion Shine as Montco’s Fastest-Growing Towns

Worcester and Upper Merion Township are among Montco's fastest-growing towns, defying statewide trends with steady population growth.

While much of Pennsylvania prepares for a population decline, Worcester Township and Upper Merion Township are headed in the other direction, writes Chris Ullery for the Bucks County Courier Times.

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates both Worcester and Upper Merion to be among the fastest-growing municipalities in the state. The estimates were released in a state report from the Center for Rural Pennsylvania.

Worcester has seen a 9.1% population jump since 2020, rising from 10,328 to 11,258 residents. Most of that surge came in 2023. Upper Merion wasn’t far behind. The township grew by 8.35% in the same time frame, adding nearly 3,000 people to its base of over 33,000.

The numbers stand out in a state where roughly 1,400 municipalities lost residents in that time frame. Both Worcester and Upper Merion have drawn new residents with their mix of suburban charm, proximity to job hubs, and access to quality schools and amenities. Their year-over-year growth suggests long-term momentum rather than a temporary spike.
