Hank’s Place Reopens in Old Chadds Ford Location on Tuesday

Hank’s Place, an iconic Chadds Ford restaurant destroyed by Hurricane Ida has been rebuilt and will open Tuesday.

Hank’s Place in Chadds Ford has triumphed over flood waters and will reopen on Tuesday after a lengthy rebuilding, writes Laura Fay for CBS News Philadelphia.

The reopening is timed with the restaurant’s 75th anniversary. Hank’s Place began as a roadside eatery in 1950.

The business was purchased by Katie and Anthony Young in 2017.

Chadds Ford artist Andrew Wyeth was a frequent customer, and some of his artwork ended up on the restaurant walls.

The restaurant was damaged from Hurricane Ida in September 2021, with the dining room, front kitchen, back kitchen, and outside area all flooded.

The original damaged building was torn down in 2023, and a new building was created higher off the ground to protect it from future storms.

Though the restaurant site was closed during the reconstruction phase, Hank’s Place did temporarily operate in Kennett Square. That facility is now closed.

The new Hank’s Place will initially be open seven days a week from 7 AM to 3 PM.

Longer hours that include dinner service will be added soon for Tuesdays through Saturdays.

The new restaurant includes outdoor tables with a view of the Brandywine Creek.
