Anna Paulson officially began her tenure as the new president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia on July 1, writes Kristen Mosbrucker-Garza for WHYY.
This marks a new era for the Philadelphia Fed, as it’s the first time that a new leader has been installed in nearly a decade.
Paulson replaces Patrick Harker, whose term expired on June 30.
An economist by training, Paulson has spent more than two decades working at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
Her most recent post was as the executive vice president and director of research at the Chicago Fed.
While there, she established the Chicago Fed’s Insurance Initiative. Since its launch, it has been used to analyze financial stability and regulatory issues across the insurance industry.
In a press release announcing Paulson as the next Philadelphia Fed president, chair of the search committee and of the Philadelphia Federal Reserve board of director, Anthony Ibargüen, said Paulson’s “expansive technical expertise and mission-driven focus will be a tremendous asset to the Philadelphia Fed and the communities it serves.”
