Community Comes Together for Annual Festival Supporting Penllyn Mother Who Lost Her Children

Montgomery County recently came together for its 11th edition of "The Flowers Still Grow" festival for Penllynn mother, Renee Sherman.

Renee Sherman, a Penllyn mother, lost her five children in a fire over three decades ago.

In the years since the tragedy happened, the community have been coming together every year to put on an annual festival honoring them, called “The Flowers Still Grow,” writes Nick Iadonisi for 6abc.

The festival has served to turn pain into power and is used as a way to give back.

“I think it’s great for families who can’t take their family anywhere and enjoy the day in a safe environment,” Sherman said.

This year marks the 11th that this festival has been going on.

A key component of the festival is fire prevention promotion, so other families don’t go through what Sherman and her family had to go through.

Renee’s mother, Sharon Lee, is very proud with the way her daughter has handled everything and her commitment to her community.

“We lost five children, but God gave us back a whole community. We’re blessed and we’re very thankful,” she said.
