Bensalem Residents Oppose 70-Home Development Near Resurrection Cemetery

Bensalem residents gathered at Bensalem Municipal Building for a meeting to discuss a proposed 70-home development by Resurrection Cemetery.

A group of Bensalem residents gathered at Bensalem Municipal Building for a meeting that was ultimately canceled, where they planned on discussing a proposed 70-home development next to Resurrection Cemetery, writes Lacey Latch for the Bucks County Courier Times.

The Bensalem Township Planning Commission meeting scheduled for Wednesday was canceled due to a lack of agenda items.

Until that morning, however, the development from Toll Brothers was one of only two listed items, suggesting that both applicants either requested a continuance or withdrew their proposals.

The 48-acre parcel at the center of the Toll Brothers’ proposal is still owned by Philadelphia Catholic Cemeteries, although the plan submission shows Stonemor Pennsylvania as the land owner.

Residents from surrounding neighborhoods are concerned about the impact the development would have on their quiet community.

“They’re going to ruin our little peace and quiet,” said Patricia Ainsley, a 22-year resident of nearby Salem Manor. “We moved there because it was quiet and we’re all old and we’re getting older.”

Trip generation data indicates that for single-family detached homes, the development would add approximately 54 new trips during weekday morning peak hour and 71 new trips in the afternoon peak hour.
