Speck’s Drive-In, on Ridge Pike in Collegeville, is one of the best places to eat fried chicken in the Philadelphia area, according to a list published by Philadelphia Magazine.
This local favorite has been around for more than six decades. It offers throwback chicken: tender and juicy broasted birds (that’s broiled and roasted, which all but eliminates the grease factor found at other takeout places) that come with bountiful sides.
Regulars routinely recommend the corn fritters. The family operation serves its offerings fast-food-style across a counter.
The fried chicken is so delicious that there are local families who have been eating Speck’s buckets for three generations.
One online reviewer wrote, “I drive 20 miles from Philly to try the Broaster chicken and thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s worth the road trip.”
