A midcentury modern home in Bryn Mawr, inspired by the 1960s aesthetic popularized by the show Mad Men, hit the market last week for $2.2 million, writes Erica Palan for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The stunning residence impresses from the start with its jaw-dropping spiral staircase.
“As soon as you walk in, you can see the curved staircase,” said listing agent Marion Dinofa of Compass Real Estate. “I see a lot of cool houses, but this is one of the most interesting I’ve seen.”
The home was designed by Philadelphia architect Irwin Stein, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, who planned the five-bedroom, five-bathroom space for his own family.
The home comes with 2.65 acres of wooded land and spans over 5,500 square feet of livable space. It features porcelain hexagonal tiling throughout the main level, which combines perfectly with the sunken conversation pit with its wood-burning hearth.
The kitchen has plenty of storage space and cabinets built by award-winning Pennsylvania woodworker Jasper Brinton.
A second full kitchen is available in the basement, along with two more bathrooms, an office, as well as plenty of storage.
“It’s secluded at the same time that it’s close to everything for convenience,” said Stein’s son Tobey.
