Divine Lorraine’s New Owners Eye Converting Hotel Back to Historic Roots As Apartment Complex

Divine Lorraine, now under the ownership of Susquehanna Structured Capital, could soon be restructured once again into apartments.

Over its more than 130-year history, the Divine Lorraine building on North Broad Street near Fairmount Avenue has served many purposes.

Its history includes being used as a hotel, affordable housing for the Divine Peace Mission Movement, renovated into apartments, and most recently as an extended-stay hotel since May 2022. This all occurred in the midst of about two decades when the building sat vacant.

The North Philadelphia building’s new owners are now planning to reopen it as an apartment complex, writes Kristen Mosbrucker-Garza for WHYY.

The Mint House Hotel had been operating inside Divine Lorraine since 2022, with each of its 110 unit suites equipped with a full kitchen and laundry. It was also available for short-term rental.

While those rooms averaged about $200 a night on weekends, the new rental prices are not yet known.

“We’re canvassing the market, going to see what we think is the right pricing for this product,” said Brian Morris, managing director at Susquehanna Structured Capital, the new owners of the building.

He praises the character of the building and the vibrant neighborhood in which it’s located.
