ChesPenn Health Services, a Federally Qualified Community Health Center serving the Coatesville community since 2007, is preparing for a transition in services following the conclusion of its lease and grant agreement with The Alliance for Health Equity on June 30, 2025.

Despite the challenges posed by funding constraints, ChesPenn remains fully committed to providing comprehensive primary and preventive medical care, dental services, and social support and to ensuring a seamless transition for the community we have proudly served for more than 19 years.

ChesPenn’s Continued Commitment to Coatesville

Since 2007, ChesPenn has been a cornerstone of healthcare in Coatesville, providing critical services to individuals and families regardless of their ability to pay. As we approach the end of our agreement with The Alliance in June 2025, ChesPenn is working diligently to make certain the community continues to have access to vital healthcare services. Our commitment to Coatesville and its residents remains unwavering through the end of our term and throughout the transition process.

ChesPenn’s Partnership with The Alliance

ChesPenn was honored to be invited by the Brandywine Health Foundation (now The Alliance for Health Equity) in 2007 to bring essential healthcare services that was previously unavailable to Coatesville. Due to the lack of federal subsidies for Coatesville, the Brandywine Health Foundation committed to supporting ChesPenn financially, providing a 15-year grant, with annual funding fluctuating between $300,000 and $350,000. This financial support, along with contributions from other foundations, allowed us to subsidize care for uninsured and underinsured patients, addressing a critical gap in services for the community. For this longstanding support, we are deeply grateful.

The Alliance has recently shifted its funding strategy to prioritize shorter-term agreements, a decision driven by its own strategic goals to reassess and potentially alter how healthcare services are delivered in Coatesville. While we respect The Alliance’s decision to explore this new direction, ChesPenn has carefully evaluated its ability to continue operating under these constraints. After thorough consideration, we have determined that without a longer-term financial commitment, it would not be feasible to sustain the comprehensive care that Coatesville residents deserve.

Ongoing Efforts to Address Funding Challenges

ChesPenn has explored every possible avenue to address the funding challenges and sustain services in Coatesville. This includes engaging with other healthcare systems, foundations, and community partners to secure alternative funding. Additionally, ChesPenn has repeatedly reached out to the federal government to request funding, which unfortunately continues to be unavailable. Despite these extensive efforts, the lack of adequate financial support has made it impossible for ChesPenn to maintain its current operations in Coatesville beyond June 30, 2025.

Planning for a Smooth Transition

ChesPenn is committed to making the transition of services as seamless as possible for our patients and staff. We are actively collaborating with The Alliance and other stakeholders, including potential successors, to maintain continuity of care for the community. We are also working to safeguard that staff members interested in continuing their work in Coatesville are supported in finding opportunities to do so.

Moving Forward with Optimism

As we look to the future, ChesPenn is optimistic that a new healthcare provider will continue to meet the needs of the Coatesville community with the same dedication and compassion. Our leadership remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring this transition is one of collaboration and optimism, keeping patients at the center of every decision.

ChesPenn Health Services will continue to provide the highest standard of care until June 30, 2025, and we remain deeply grateful for the trust placed in us by the Coatesville community. While this chapter of our work is coming to a close, we are confident that the foundation we’ve built will support the health and well-being of Coatesville residents for years to come.
