These Projects Are Transforming the Look of Local College Campuses
West Chester University and Wilmington University are among the local institutions undertaking landmark projects that are reshaping the look of college campuses across Greater Philadelphia, writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
West Chester, the largest school in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education, has recorded a strong demand for on-campus living in recent years.
To help meet that demand, WCU’s new President Lorraine Bernotsky plans to install modular housing this spring for flex space, with the long-term plan of adding between 500 and 800 new beds on campus over the next five years.
In neighboring Delaware, Wilmington University is currently working on two landmark projects that will cost a total of $71 million and are set to be completed next year.
After admitting its first law school class last fall, WilmU is currently constructing a $23 million, 52,000-square-foot law school building. Additionally, the school is also working on an 85,000-square-foot, $48 million Convocation Center that will include a 2,000-seat auditorium and the university’s Criminal Justice Institute.
