Michael Bugler, a senior at Archbishop Carroll High School in Wayne, has taken matters into his own hands to keep his community clean by starting the “Keep Upper Merion Beautiful” campaign, reports Nick Iadonisi for 6abc.

“The objective of the project is to clean up the township, tell people as well as companies the ways that they can reduce waste and overall improve cleanliness in the environment,” said Bugler.

Together with his father, Bugler has already managed to collect hundreds of pounds of trash off the ground.

“Me and my dad, we try to go every weekend, for about two hours,” said the senior. “We ultimately came up with the thought of cleaning up litter because there’s litter unfortunately everywhere.”

He is posting details about his campaign on social media in the hopes of spreading more awareness to others. His progress since April can be seen on his  Instagram page, @KeepUpperMerionBeautiful.

Bugler estimates that more than 600 pounds of trash have been collected since the start of the project.
