Insomnia Cookies Looks to Triple Washington D.C. Footprint After Recently Opening 12th Area Location
Insomnia Cookies, the Philadelphia-headquartered cookie company, is planning to triple its Washington D.C. footprint over the next several years, write Daniel Sernovitz and Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The announcement comes about eight years after the company opened its initial D.C. store in Adams Morgan.
This past October, Insomnia Cookies opened two more stores in D.C., bringing its total to around a dozen across the Greater Washington area. The hope is to add at least another 28 in the coming years, with a focus on proximity to late-night bars, restaurants, and other establishments that cater to night owls.
The two latest stores brought Insomnia Cookies past the 300 mark nationwide. All of the store are company-owned.
“I founded the business 21 years ago, and I methodically grew it, market by market over many years, to the point where we’re getting to the point where we’re scaling it,” said Insomnia founder Seth Berkowitz.
The Philadelphia region currently has 20 locations, with another one opening soon in Fishtown.
Berkowitz founded Insomnia Cookies in his dorm room in 2003 while attending the University of Pennsylvania.
