Two Immaculata University students were awarded scholarships from the Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP). The scholarships awarded were the Commonwealth “Good Citizen” Scholarship and the McLean Scholarship for Nursing and Physician Assistant Majors.

De-Sean Hubert, a junior from Chester, received the Commonwealth “Good Citizen” Scholarship, reserved for students who have shown extraordinary commitment to community service and have demonstrated creativity in shaping their volunteer activities. Recipients of the scholarship are awarded $2,000 to assist them in their academic careers.

Hubert, an accounting major dedicated to serving his community both on and off campus, frequently participates in service opportunities, including assisting the retired IHM sisters at Camilla Hall and tending to Immaculata’s raised garden beds and harvesting produce that is donated to the West Chester Food Bank. Hubert hopes to use this scholarship to support his academic financial needs and as motivation to continue to contribute to the community. Upon graduation, he plans to enter the field of accounting.

Gabrielle O’Brien, a junior from Glenmoore, received the McLean Scholarship for Nursing and Physician Assistant Majors. The McLean Contributionship established a generous endowment in 1998 to provide scholarship funds to full-time undergraduate students who are enrolled in nursing or physician assistant degree programs. Recipients of the scholarship are awarded $4,500 to assist them in their academic careers.

O’Brien, a nursing major, plans to pursue a career in pediatric nursing upon graduation. She is a dedicated member of Immaculata’s Campus Ministry and currently serves as captain of Immaculata’s women’s field hockey team.

“Receiving this scholarship is a transformative opportunity that allows me to fully dedicate myself to my nursing education,” stated O’Brien. “It lifts the financial burden, enabling me to focus on my studies and gain the knowledge and skills I need to become the compassionate and skilled nurse I’ve always aspired to be!”
