Last year was a big one for Philadelphia area CEOs. Ten of the top twelve highest earners saw an increase in salary over 2022, write Isaac Avilucea and Mike D’Onofrio of Axios.

According to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings, the company leaders saw a salary increase ranging from 4.6 percent to 52.5 percent.

Topping the list is Comcast CEO, Brian Roberts. Roberts’ salary clocked in at $35.5 million in 2023, up about 10 percent from 2022. Nearly 40 percent of the pay bump came in the form of stocks and option grants.

Richard Thornberry, CEO of Wayne’s Radian Group saw the greatest increase in compensation — 52 percent over 2022’s $8.4 million salary bringing him to $12.8 million in 2023.

Lowest on the list is Tim Donahue, CEO of Yardley’s Crown Holdings, though his $11.9 million salary is a 28 percent increase from the year before.

Of the top 12 highest-earning CEOs in the region, only one saw a decrease in salary. Aramark’s John Zillmer earned $12.7 million compared to $13.3 million in 2022.

William Sibold was new to his position as CEO of Conshohoken-based Madrigal Pharmaceuticals in 2023, so there was no previous salary to compare. He earned $32.3 million in 2023, making him the second-highest-paid CEO in the region.
