Conshohocken’s ZeroEyes Brings AI-Powered Gun Identification to Temple
Temple University signed on as the first university in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware to start using Conshohocken-based ZeroEyes’s innovative Artificial Intelligence program for gun detection, writes David Chang for NBC10 Philadelphia.
ZeroEyes, founded in 2018 after the tragic mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, works by using artificial intelligence to detect brandished firearms via any camera equipped with its software. The image is then shared with ZeroEyes Operations Center employees, most of whom are military veterans and law enforcement professionals.
After an image is reviewed and a threat has been confirmed, an alert is sent out to staff at the impacted school or property along with first responders. The entire process usually takes just several seconds, according to officials from the company.
A presentation on the technology began Monday. Temple Police Chief and Vice President for Public Safety Jennifer Griffin as well as ZeroEyes co-founder and COO Rob Huberty were in attendance.
The Greater Egg Harbor Regional School District in South Jersey began using the technology in November 2023. SEPTA also attempted to implement the technology in 2022 but had to end the pilot program due to compatibility issues.
