Coatesville Train Station Construction Remains on Schedule, with Hopes for Starting Service Next Year
Construction of the $70 million Coatesville Train Station remains on schedule and set to start service in about a year, writes Bill Rettew for The Daily Local News.
Upon completion, SEPTA riders will soon be able to board trains at the station.
“The region is eager to see the train station completed by the end of 2025, and we anticipate the return of SEPTA thereafter,” said City Manager James Logan. “The timing coincides nicely with the culmination of a number of other city projects currently in the works.”
Most recently, installation of the south platform panels has been finalized. There are currently ongoing activities on the north side of the tracks, including construction of a temporary support system of the tracks and the final retaining wall and repaving of Coates Street.
Amtrak already finalized the construction of the two-and-a-half-mile-long freight bypass track designed to accommodate Norfolk Southern’s wide loads around the new high-level platforms.
The remaining work includes constructing elevator and stair towers, and converting the 4th Avenue underpass into a bicycle and pedestrian connection between platforms. A station parking lot is included in future work.
