Boeing layoffs at its Ridley Park plant are part of a company-wide layoff that’s affecting thousands, with 101 laid off in Pennsylvania.

Boeing is laying off 101 workers in Pennsylvania, divided among its plant here in Ridley Park and at two locations in Fayette County in western Pennsylvania, writes Lizzy McLellan Ravitch for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The Pennsylvania layoffs are among thousands companywide as Boeing recovers from financial and regulation difficulties, as well as a nearly two month strike by machinists.

Job termination will be effective Jan. 17, according to a notice filed with the Pennsylvania Dept. of Labor and Industry.

Specific numbers of jobs lost at each facility were not released.

“As previously announced, we are adjusting our workforce levels to align with our financial reality and a more focused set of priorities. We are committed to ensuring our employees have support during this challenging time,” the company said through a spokesperson on Tuesday.

This is the second time in 2024 that Boeing has reduced its workforce at Ridley Park after 69 workers were laid off in August.

Boeing announced in October it would be cutting about 10 percent of its workforce, about 17,000 jobs, in the months ahead.

The machinist strike impacted Boeing’s finances but did not cause the layoffs, according to CEO Kelly Ortberg, blaming them instead on overstaffing.
