Amazon is set to open its Amazon Fresh location in Willow Grove on November 7, Paul Schwedelson for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The announcement comes after years of delays and legal disputes. Amazon signed the lease for a 31,133-square-foot space at the Willow Grove Shopping Center in 2020, but the store’s opening was postponed due to Amazon reevaluating its Fresh model in early 2023. This pause led to Federal Realty GP LLC filing a lawsuit against Amazon Retail LLC and Amazon, claiming they breached the lease by withholding rent and delaying store operations.

The complaint sought nearly $180,000 in unpaid rent and expenses, but the case was discontinued in July after Amazon submitted a counterclaim blaming unmet conditions by Federal Realty. 

The Willow Grove store, located at 102 Park Ave., will operate daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and represents the fifth Amazon Fresh outlet in the Philadelphia area, with existing stores in Warrington, Broomall, Bensalem, and Langhorne.

Recent openings in Bensalem and Langhorne occurred as Amazon revamped its store design, focusing on improved stock, a more inviting atmosphere, and enhanced checkout options, including self-checkout and Dash Carts.

Amazon also holds liquor licenses in safekeeping at several locations, including the Willow Grove store. Additional licenses at sites in Havertown and Philadelphia hint that these may be among the next Amazon Fresh locations to open in the region.
