Susan Flavin has earned the Six Star Medal for completing six major marathons.

Susan Flavin, an East Vincent Township resident, earned the coveted Six Star Medal, awarded by the Abbott World Marathon Majors to runners who complete all six major marathons, writes Gina Lizzo for the Main Line Today.

Nationwide, only 4,153 people have earned the award, and just 98 in Pennsylvania.

Flavin is a breast cancer survivor who started running in 2014, after a friend convinced her to try a mud run. She trained for eight months and enjoyed it immensely.

She then signed up for several 5k races and by April 2018, was running her first Boston Marathon. The day brought the worst weather for the event ever.

“That’s been my bar by which I measure everything,” said Flavin. “Now, every single challenge that comes my way, I say, ‘It’s not as bad as Boston.’”

She was almost put out of commission by a broken sacrum in 2020, but once again successfully recovered and was ready to continue running. Since 2022, she has finished marathons in New York City, London, Chicago, Berlin, and finally Tokyo, where she was presented with her Six Star Medal.
