Phoenixville Teen Helps Kids Worldwide With ‘School Essentials’ Nonprofit
Phoenixville’s Aadit Bontha, a 16-year-old La Salle College High School student, is helping kids around the globe gain better education tools through his nonprofit, School Essentials, reports Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.
“Around two years ago, I looked around my room and realized I had so many extra school supplies,” said Bontha. “Around the same time, I saw an article that was talking about how in some South Asian countries students can’t afford to go to school due to economic turmoil and political instability. I realized if I had this many pencils and other school supplies lying around, maybe others do too.”
Bontha founded his nonprofit and set up several donation boxes at local libraries to create a convenient way for community members to drop off extra school supplies.
The participants in the drive include the Phoenixville Public Library, Royersford Free Public Library, Spring Valley Library, Perkiomen Valley Library, and the Spring Valley YMCA.
So far, the teen has sent supplies to Bangladesh, Guatemala, and Ukraine with the help of organizations like Lifting Hands International and Helping Hand for Relief and Development USA.
