Lucatelli’s in Doylestown will temporarily close its doors starting Nov. 4 for a major renovation and expansion project, writes Michele Haddon for the Bucks County Courier Times

Owner Dave Schiano opened the popular pizza shop almost three years ago and almost immediately developed a strong following of regulars. The number of customers surged once again after the pizzeria was visited by Barstool Sports and One Bite Pizza founder David Portnoy.

“We were growing and growing,” said Schiano, “and once Portnoy came, it just really put us on the map, and it got crazy for a while. What I realized was the kitchen was too small and we needed to expand.”

The eatery in the Mercer Square shopping center is now expanding into the space next door.

“With how fast that we grew out of this space and the response from the Doylestown community and every little thing that’s gotten us to this point, I feel blessed and it’s been amazing,” said Schiano.

The owner is hopeful that the renovation and expansion work will be done in around two to three weeks.

The expansion will add 1,200 square feet to the restaurant’s current 1,600 square feet.
