Edgewood Historic Cemetery in Pottstown, which dates back to the 1800s, now has a new team of advocates to keep it alive, reports Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

The board of volunteers works throughout the entire year to raise funds for the historic cemetery, which usually requires around $25,000 annually to maintain its landscape.

Andrew Minostra is the head “of a little group of people who have adopted Edgewood Cemetery,” he said.

The group came together in 2017, after the cemetery went five years without any maintenance.

Volunteers also host two cleanup events per year, one of which took place last week.

“We just do a callout, ‘this is our cleanup day, please come,’” said Kelly Fenstermacher, Edgewood Historic Cemetery board member. “And we have other nonprofit organizations, we have local neighbors, and we even have people that aren’t local but they see the sign go up and they’ll just show up. It’s fantastic.”

The restoration and maintenance of the cemetery is currently supported by several local organizations, including The Hill School and Hobart’s Run.
