Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to Honor 76ers Superfan Alan Horwitz
The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame will honor Philadelphia 76ers superfan and Campus Apartments Chairman Alan Horwitz, known as the Sixers’ “Sixth Man,” writes Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
On October 13, Horwitz will join the likes of film director Spike Lee and actor Jack Nicholson in the James F. Goldstein SuperFan Gallery at the Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Horwitz has been a consistent courtside presence at Sixers games for decades and founded Campus Apartments in 1958. The CEO of this University City-based student housing development firm is David Adelman, who is a part-owner of the Sixers and the face of their Center City arena plan.
Horwitz recently opened the Alan Horwitz Sixth Man Center in Nicetown. The 100,000-square-foot North Philadelphia basketball venue and community hub cost $36 million to construct.
“It’s an honor and a privilege to be in the Superfan Hall of Fame Gallery with other passionate fans,” said Horwitz. “My mother would never believe this if she were alive today.”
Horwitz is one of four superfans who will be honored during the Hall of Fame’s 2024 Enshrinement Weekend.
The Hall of Fame SuperFan Gallery was established in 2018.
