King of Prussia-based Universal Health Services sells River Crest Hospital to San Angelo, Texas-based Shannon Medical Center.

King of Prussia-based Universal Health Services recently sold River Crest Hospital to San Angelo, Texas-based Shannon Medical Center, writes Alan Condon for Becker’s Hospital Review.

River Crest in San Angelo is an 80-bed facility that offers behavioral health and substance use disorder programs for children, adolescents, adults, and military members. The hospital’s new owner already has a 22-bed regional inpatient psychiatric facility that offers behavioral health services for adults and senior adults. Outpatient behavioral health programs are available at both of the facilities.

Shannon now wants to expand its behavioral health services by the initiation of facility upgrades, adding services, and improved technology and equipment. It also wants to increase the number of behavioral health employees and providers and add 40 beds to the River Crest campus.

“This new addition to the Shannon Health System will ensure community members of all ages who struggle with behavioral health and substance abuse issues will have expanded access to specialized care,” said Shannon Medical Center President and CEO Shane Plymell.
