SEPTA will reduce the number of remote work days for its nonunion administrative workers from November 4, writes Jake Blumgart for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

According to general manager Leslie Richards, office employees can only use one remote work day per week.

“We love the increase in activity we’re seeing throughout our system,” said Richards. “With the city employees coming back, with Comcast coming back, we want to support that trend and support Philadelphia.”

This will affect 2,109 office employees. The majority of SEPTA workers – 9,300 – were not eligible for remote work in the first place.

The supervisory, administrative, and management employees have so far been able to work remotely at least twice a week.

The affected employees work primarily at the transit agency’s headquarters in Center City.

Some employees expressed their frustration with reduced flexibility while others said they appreciated that remote work was still an option, even for one day.

“I have had a remote working schedule the majority of my career, and I know how important it has been at times throughout my life,” said Richards. “That’s why we gave a two-month time period for employees to figure things out and talk with their families.”
