Richard Fida Shares the Secret to Long Life at 100th Birthday
Richard Fida celebrated his 100th birthday earlier this week with a surprise party, reports Yukare Nakayama and Cherise Lynch for NBC Philadelphia.
Fida’s wife Carli organized a surprise birthday lunch with the help of the Twilight Wish Foundation. The Foundation’s goal is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors.
The party was held at the Senior Adult Activities Center of Montgomery County in Norristown. Its theme was ‘Old New York.’ A Frank Sinatra impersonator sang the hits while italian food was served.
Fida received the Purple Heart for his service in the Marines during World War 2. After being discharged, he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad. Later, he worked part-time for Macy’s before retiring at 91.
Fida’s secret to a long life: kindness.
“And they ask me, ‘What do you attribute your longevity to?’ Being nice to people. I think the Lord led me this way because I was always nice to people,” said Fida.
Fida was spriteful for a man who reached triple digits. He spent the party dancing with his wife.
“I can’t believe they did this for me, I hope I get to live another 100 to do this again,” said Fida.
