While the majority of Pennsylvania counties have seen their workforce shrink over the last seven years, Montgomery County managed to record an increase in its labor force, writes Chris Ullery for the Bucks County Courier Times.

According to a review of annual unemployment estimates from the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 22 counties had more people over the age of 16 employed or looking for work last year than there were in 2017.

Montgomery County is among the top three counties – together with Philadelphia and Chester – for total labor force growth in that period. For the four year period since the start of the pandemic, Montgomery County tops the list with 13,575 more workers. Chester County is second with 12,103 workers added between 2020 and 2023. Bucks County came in third with 8,345 more workers.

Montgomery County had 452,286 workers in 2017. That number increased to 456,734 in 2020 and 470,309 in 2023 for a total six-year labor force change of 18,023 and a four-year change coming in at 13,575.
